Late Friday night, Bishop Timon High School officials confirmed that Joe Licata will take over as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at the school.
Licata takes over for Charlie Comerford, who left both positions three weeks ago.
Licata is a graduate of Williamsville South High School, starring in both football and basketball. The quarterback earned a scholarship to play football at the University at Buffalo. He started at QB for three and a half seasons for the Bulls, throwing for over 9,000 yards. After graduating, Licata signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. He is currently running Joe Licata Football Inc., which is a skills camp for local football players.
Since the departure of Comerford, the football program has fallen into disarray. There is a strong belief that Timon will not be able to field a varsity program in 2017.
Several players on the football team have transferred out in the past few weeks and rumors continue to swirl that more will happen soon. Three lineman, including Jeremiah Sanders, have already transferred to South Park. An unnamed skilled player has transferred to Burgard. QB and UB commit Matt Myers is rumored to be heading to West Seneca West.
