The 38th Annual Roy Sommers Tournament was held Saturday at Tonawanda Bowling Center. 42 teams from Section VI and Section V entered the competition.
The Frontier Falcons girls team finished in 1st place by a mere 5 pins over West Seneca. Makenzie Yesis finished with the high game (236) while teammate Brittany McAndrew recorded the high-series (584).
Orchard Park, Niagara-Wheatfield and Dunkirk rounded out the Top 5 team finishers. The All-Tournament Team were; Marissa Staschak (NW), Katie Zienma (WS), Hannah Ellman (Dunkirk), Morgan Beres (OP), Marina McClure (Tona) and from Section V’s Webster-Thomas, Cassidy Potter.
The Lady Falcons combined for 881 total pins in their first game Saturday that helped lead them to the 1st place finish.
On the boys side Webster-Thomas out of Section V had an impressive day finishing 1st overall with 4365 TP. They finished 142 pins better than 2nd place finisher Niagara Falls, who is one of the top teams in Section VI.
Orchard Park, Frontier and Tonawanda all placed in the Top 5. Jared Langfitt took high-game with 254 total pins while his Webster-Thomas teammate Anthony Allen had the high-series 682.
The All-Tournament Team were Michael Weber (St. Joe’s), Ryan Reese (O’Hara), Dom Germano (Ken-East), Jon Kurdziel (Tona), Matt Bellavia (NF) and Dan Zahlhas (Lancaster).
The Section Tournament will begin with the Girls on Wednesday Feb 15th and the Boys are on Thursday Feb 16th. All games will be held at Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga.
