Press Release: Ginger Geoffrey/Canisius High-School

A team of Canisius High School rowers has qualified to compete in the U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships this coming weekend. Canisius Senior Men 72kg Four+ members GJ Weckerle (cox), Ryan Walter, Will Herzog, Nathaniel Sass and Charles Korn will travel to Sacramento, CA for the national competition June 8-10.

This past weekend the same crew earned a first place finish at the 73rd Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association National Championship Regatta in St. Catharines, Ontario. That followed a first place finish at the New York State Scholastic Championships in Saratoga Springs and third place at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championships in Camden, NJ in May.

Canisius had a total of five boats competing in the finals at the Canadian regatta. The Canisius Junior Men 72kg Four+ crew of Owen Wittman (cox), Aiden Hart-Nova, James Oh, Jeff Mueller and Zach Mecca also won their race. The Canisius Senior Men 72kg Eight crew of GJ Weckerle (cox), Ryan Walter, Will Herzog, Nathaniel Sass, Charles Korn, Zach Porter, Max Battaglia, Aiden Hart-Nova and James Oh earned a silver medal.
