Canisius 4, Niagara-Wheatfield 2
The Crusaders scored three straight goals and held on to beat the Falcons for their ninth win of the season.
Jaden Riley, Mike Lafferty, and Chris Heitzhaus all netted goals early for Canisius. NW responded as Anthony Delisanti scored with 1:48 left in the first period.
Austin Durandetto cut the Falcon deficit to one goal early in the third.
Heitzhaus netted an empty goal with 21 seconds left to seal the win.
Alex Sabuda earned the win in net for the Crusaders making 16 saves.
Bishop Timon 5, Lockport-Niagara Falls 1
Michael Sands had four goals as the Tigers got a bounce back win.
Sean McCarthy broke a scoreless tie in the second period to give Timon the lead.
Andrew Haseley netted the lone L-NF goal on the man-advantage with 2:31 left in the game.
Tigers netminder Trai Jenkins stopped 19 shots.
Grand Island 3, Starpoint 2
Josh Conta participated in all three Viking goals as his team took one step closer to getting the No. 2 seed in the Small School playoffs. Grand Island can secure that spot Monday with either a win over North Tonawanda or a Starpoint loss to Williamsville East.
Conta gave GI the early lead finding the back of the net with 7:24 left in the first period. The Spartans responded less than a minute later as Max Ciepiela scored to tie the game at one going into the locker room.
Dylan Russo netted a goal halfway through the second and Conta added another goal as the Vikings took a 3-1 lead into the third period.
Ryan Kelly brought Starpoint within one, but GI held off the Spartans for the remaining 7:08.
Netminder Nathan Stroh stopped 18 shots in net for the Vikings.
Today’s games
West Seneca West vs. Amherst 11:45 a.m. Northtown Center
The Indians are still in the hunt for the top seed in the Small School playoffs but they need to run the table starting with Amherst. The Tigers put up a strong effort falling 2-1 to West Seneca East last week.
West Seneca East vs. Williamsville South 2:30 p.m. Northtown Center
The Trojans Friday night game against St. Francis was canceled. In the final weeks of the season, West Seneca East is in the running for the No. 5 seed in the Small School playoffs. The Billies are coming off a 7-2 loss to Williamsville East on Thursday.
Hamburg vs. Williamsville East 4:45 p.m. Northtown Center
The two teams played a non-league game on Jan. 12, where the Flames won 3-1. Will East has been strong since the turn of the calendar winning five of their last six, the lone loss coming to Kenmore West. The Bulldogs have lost four of their last six games.
St. Mary’s vs. Niagara Wheatfield 6:00 p.m. Niagara University
The Lancers are coming off a big win over rival Lancaster on Monday. St. Mary’s has won four of their last six games. The Falcons have lost their last four games.
Sweet Home vs. Lew-Port 8:15 p.m. Niagara University
The Panthers won their first game of 2019 beating Hamburg on Monday. The Lancers haven’t been in action since Jan. 13 when they fell to Kenmore West, 2-0.
