With a victory on Wednesday night at home in a dual against league rival Grand Island, Niagara Wheatfield senior Justin McDougald captured his 223rd career victory passing four time NYS place winner and 2010 state champion Angelo Malvestuto for sole position atop the storied programs’ all-time wins leader board.
“I’ve had him since he was five years old at the wrestling club and now I’ve watched him mature into a young man and leader,” said Wheatfield head coach Rick Sweney reflecting on McDougald’s career. “This past year he has really stepped up and matured as a leader and a captain. He’s shared his wrestling travels and experiences with the team. He’s a good kid and I’m going to miss him.”
Justin, who has been in the varsity lineup since 7th grade, is one of the most decorated wrestlers of the last decade in WNY. Justin is a four time Section VI champion, a two time NYS finalist & three time state place winner, and an Eastern States champion & two time place winner. McDougald currently holds a 32-1 season record and a 223-27 overall career record.
