The Lake Shore/Silver Creek Boys Lacrosse team is picking up right where they left off in 2021 – dominating their opponents.
The defending Class C champions, who went undefeated last season, showed they will still be a tough out in 2022 beating the Grand Island Vikings 17-3 in their season opener Wednesday at Gene Masters Field.
“It was a little sloppy here and there but for the most part we did pretty good,” Lake Shore/Silver Creek coach Adrian John said. “Anyone that’s coming back we expect to get better and become better leaders. We saw that today.”
Lake Shore/Silver Creek quickly got things going scoring less than a minute and a half in the game. Junior Blayze Becker opened the scoring with the first of his team-high five goals. His third capped off a strong opening quarter which gave his team a 7-1 lead.
Michael Coburn scored the second Viking-goal to start the second quarter, but Lake Shore/Silver Creek answered back with four goals of their own and took an 11-2 lead at the half.
Obrigh Tallchief scored two of his three goals in the third quarter.
Griffin Mahoney and Zach Bridenbaker had the two other Grand Island goals.
Lake Shore/Silver Creek brings back 11 starters from last year’s team, including Becker, Tallchief, Jaden Kennedy and Joiise John. They play next Tuesday at Williamsville East at 5 p.m.
