Over the weekend the Tonawanda Lightning Bantam Major 2003 hockey team won the Flat Water Shootout in Ann Arbor, MI. After going undefeated in Pool Play Friday and Saturday, the Lightning went on to defeat the Chicago Blues 6-2 in the championship.
Matthew Riddle scored two goals in the finals while Liam Meyers, Ryan Edholm, Anthony Genau, Andrew Rasullo each had one.
Noah Manning, the Tonawanda goaltender was named tournament MVP. He is a Freshman at St. Joe’s.
Tonawanda scored 21 goals in the four games they played, which was the most of any team participating.
The Lightning faced the Blues on Friday night as well and won 3-2 before their rematch on Sunday.
The team is made up of players from St. Joe’s, Kenmore West, Kenmore East, Lew-Port, City Honors, Sweet Home and St. Amelia’s.
The head coach is John Edholm and the assistants are Chris Ventura, Dan Lauer and Christopher Rasulo
