The NYSSWA Girls Soccer All State Teams and players of the year were released Monday morning. While Clarence was the lone representative for Section 6 at the state semifinals in Cortland, several players were given All Star Honors for their seasons across all six classifications plus Monsignor Martin.
Class AAA
Freshman Laila Sengbusch from Lancaster was the lone Section 6 player in the state’s highest class, earning a Fourth Team selection after posting a team leading 20 goals and 7 assists in her freshman campaign.
Class AA
Clarence was eliminated in the state semifinal in Cortland, but were well represented with three players earning state recognition for their efforts on the pitch. Senior midfielder Naoimh Brady was named to First Team, tallying 3 goals and 3 assists. Freshman Emma Payne was a Second Team Selection, leading the Red Devils with 33 goals and adding 10 assists. Payne was tied for 3rd in the section for goals. Rounding out Clarence’s selections was junior Breanna Hurley, who had a strong presence on the back line for Clarence.
Joining the trio from Clarence was sophomore Shya Wittcop from Lockport, who received a Third Team nomination. Wittcop was tied for the team lead with 24 goals, but did lead the team in assists with 17 helpers.
Class A
Lewiston-Porter took the Class A Sectional crown, and had two selections. First was Senior Emily Stefik, who led the team with 23 goals and was second with 10 assists. Joining her was sophomore Elisabeth Gray, who received a Fourth Team selection. Gray tallied 11 goals and led the Lancers with 14 assists.
Williamsville South had the other First Team selection with senior Ava Plezia, who led the Billies with 29 goals and recorded 7 assists to earn her selection.
Amherst senior Sophie Rourke rounds out Class A selections with a Fourth Team nod. Rourke led the Tigers with 22 goals and added 8 assists, second on the team.
Class B
It had been a 10 year sectional drought for Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove, and they snapped that drought in November to claim Class B. To go with it, they had two representatives in the state teams.
Julianna Roth was the lone Section 6 player on First Team, anchoring the midfield with exceptional two way play, and scoring 19 goals and 10 assists, 2nd on the team in both categories. Joining her is Kylie Kress, one of two Section 6 players on Second Team. Kress led the Golden Cougars with 24 goals and 12 assists.
Allegany-Limestone were the sectional runner-ups and CCAA West 1 champions, and were represented by Cait Kellogg on Second Team and Addie Fisher on Third Team. Kellogg paced the Gators in her senior season with a team-high 28 goals and 9 assists. Fisher was a strong presence in the midfield, exceptional on both sides of the ball, and was backed up with 11 goals and 12 assists in her senior campaign.
Joining Fisher on Third Team is senior Kaitlin Mettler from Royalton-Hartland. The Rams’ senior spent time as a midfielder and forward this season, leading the team with 36 goals and 10 assists. Her 36 goals were 2nd in Section 6.
Rounding out the Class B selections on Fourth Team would first be Aleyna Susfolk from Akron. The Senior defender was a key piece to the Tigers’ back line, but she also provided depth scoring for Akron, as she tallied 8 goals and 5 assists to end the season. Joining her is senior midfielder Kaylyn Carnes from Southwestern, who finished tied for the team lead in both goals and assists, finding twine 16 times and adding 11 helpers despite missing the final two regular season games and both playoff games due to injury.
Class C
Frewsburg claimed their fifth consecutive Section 6 Championship, as they continued to prove why they are one of the best small school programs in Western New York.
Leading the way for the Lady Bears have been the twin sister duo of Taytum and Ava Jimerson. Taytum was the anchor of the midfield and was rewarded with a First Team selection, thanks to her stellar two way play combined with 17 goals and a team leading 25 assists. Her sister Ava led Section 6 with 43 goals and added 17 assists, and was awarded a Second Team selection.
St Mary’s of Lancaster finished an unblemished 7-0 in Monsignor Martin, having their season end with a 3-0 loss to St Anthony’s. The Lancers had two players each on First and Third Teams. Juniors Michaela Panella and Lily Iozzia were First Team selections, both playing primarily defense and midfield. Panella was tied for the team lead with 16 goals and added 5 assists. Iozzia did not find the back of the net but did chip in 2 assists. Senior Allis Osmond and Freshman Clare Jones were Third Team selections. Osmond was the other Lancer to record 16 goals, but she also contributed with 8 assists. Jones had six goals and five assists in her freshman campaign.
Rounding out Class C were freshman Addison Elia from Wilson, who was named to Second Team, and sophomore Grace Gariepy from Portville, who was given a Third Team nod. Elia followed up her impressive 8th grade season with 24 goals and 7 assists in her freshman campaign, leading the Lakewomen in goals and 3rd in assists. Gariepy accounted for 33 goals and 5 assists for the Panthers, those 33 goals tying her for 3rd in Section 6.
Class D
Senior Addison John from Ellicottville was the lone Section 6 representative, earning a Second Team nomination. She led the team with 16 goals and added 3 assists as the Eagles once again claimed the Class D crown.
