Westfield’s championship journey was thwarted in Saturday’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C Far West Regional.
Landon Washburn’s game-high 28 points powered Honeoye to a 64-60 win, as the Bulldogs forward battled tooth and nail with Westfield’s Carson Swanson, who finished a solid effort of his own with 23 points. Swanson ends his high school career with 2,448 points, which is second all-time in Western New York H.S. basketball history, 28 points shy of the record.
Zach Maguire chipped in 13 points, while Braylon Swanson contributed 10 points for the Wolverines, who finished the season with a record of 21-3.
With the win, Honeoye improved to 24-2 and advances to the state final four where it will meet the winner of Cooperstown (III) and Moravia (IV) next Friday at 3:15 p.m. at Visions
Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton.
A 1-point game at the half quickly turned in the favor of Honeoye, which opened up a 9-point advantage on two free throws from Dylan Washburn with 3 minutes 50 seconds to go in the third quarter. The Bulldogs finished the third with a 6-point lead and was able to hang on in the fourth for the win.
