WNY Athletics Girls Wrestler of the Week presented by D&E Dream Builders: Emma Ponzi

Niagara Falls freshman Emma Ponzi has been selected as the WNY Athletics Girls Wrestler of the Week presented by D&E Dream Builders for the week of Monday, December 30th, 2024 – Sunday, January 5th, 2025

Emma went a perfect 5-0 on Saturday at the strong Chautauqua Lake Girls Invitational on the way to the 138-pound title. Emma was a winner by pin in all five of her wins, including over two returning NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Invitational competitors, one of whom is a defending place winner.

So far this season, Emma has been a big part of the combined Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield team. According to her coaches, Emma is the hardest worker on the squad who treats her competitors, teammates, and adults with respect. Emma’s coaches praise her determined, competitive spirit and disciplined pursuit of excellence on and off the mat.

Emma is also a fishing and hiking enthusiast and carries an honor roll GPA as a student-athlete at Niagara Falls High School.
