Iroquois junior Michaela Thomas has been selected as the WNY Athletics Girls Wrestler of the Week presented by Sign Gypsies WNY for the week of Monday, February 24th – Saturday, March 1st, 2025.
Michaela claimed the 165-pound title at the very first NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Championships on Thursday in Albany and will go into the record books as Section VI’s first female state wrestling champion. She went 4-0 in the bracket on the way to the state title. In the final, Michaela was a decisive 11-6 decision winner over the top seed from Union-Endicott (IV) to avenge her only loss of the season.
Michaela ends the season with a 42-1 record and currently sits at 98-8 overall for her career with a Section VI title also on her season resume.
Michaela’s coaches say that she is a model student-athlete with a solid grade point average and that she sets a high example that aspiring and up and coming female wrestlers especially should follow.
