WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week presented by the SonShine Charitable Fund: Khamya'J Maxwell

Lockport sophomore Khamya'J Maxwell has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week presented by the SonShine Charitable Fund for the week of Wednesday, January 3rd – Saturday, January 6th, 2024.

Khamya'J went a perfect 5-0 at the 3rd Annual Chautauqua Lake Girls Invitational on Saturday on the way to the 185-pound title. She dominated the field winning all five of her matches by pin to claim her second consecutive Invitational title. Maxwell accounted for twenty six tournament points for the Lions which were absolutely critical in the team score race as Lockport out paced the host Eagles, 147 to 143-points for the team title.

So far this season, Khamya'J is 14-2 overall and a big part of the Lions’ success. She went 3-0 on December 15th in a home quad dual meet to help the lady Lions team defeat Niagara Wheatfield, Alexander, and Kenmore. Khamya'J is also a returning 5th place winner from the 1st NYSPHSAA Girls’ Invitational in January 2023.

According to her coaches, Khamya'J is an outstanding student-athlete carrying a strong GPA on top of being a three sport athlete (soccer, wrestling, lacrosse). She is a core member of the group of athletes helping to lay the foundation for girls’ wrestling at Lockport High School. Her coaches say that Khamya'J has helped to recruit all the new team members this year and that she is looked upon as a leader on and off the mat.

WNY Athletics is proud to partner with the SonShine Charitable Fund as our presenting organization for the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week for the 2023-2024 season.
