Red Devils Return the Favor

The Clarence Red Devils’ only loss of the year came at the hands of Williamsville North in mid-September. On Saturday, the Red Devils returned the favor by handing the Spartans their first loss of the season by a score of 4-1.

Sam Sutherland put Clarence on the board first off a pass from Nick Lunetta just three minutes into the game.

Will North came right back as Chris Stryker scored to tie the game.

Not too long later, Chris O’Brien shot a 22-yard bullet into the net to put Clarence up 2-1 at the half.

The Red Devils could taste victory and came out strong in the second half.

After a foul on the Spartans’ Goalie, Clarence had a free kick from the left corner of the tackle box. The Red Devils took advantage of the opportunity as Cam Law placed the ball in front of the net and Sutherland knocked it in to give Clarence a 3-1 lead.

Quinn Neelon scored the final goal with 17 mins left in the game.

Williamsville North Head Coach Dave Lamastra hopes his team will learn from their first loss of the season saying, “I can’t be too upset, we’ve had a terrific run. The loss is something hopefully the boys put in their memory banks. We’ll work on our deficiencies and we’ll get better”.

Clarence Head Coach Mike Silverstein was very proud of his team’s performance, “We came out stellar,” said coach. “We asked the kids to play with some passion and heart. We just raised up our game today and played at a high level”.

Chris O’Brien said after the game, “I’m so happy we were able to pull this off. Everyone knows (Williamsville) North is our big rival”.

After Saturday’s game, Clarence and Will North are tied for the top seed in ECIC I and the Class AA playoff standings.

Up next, Clarence (9-1-1, 12-1-2) will host the Frontier Falcons (2-8-1, 5-8-1) on Wednesday at 5:15 pm for their final league game and Williamsville North (9-1-1, 12-1-2) will travel to Orchard Park (6-4-1, 8-4-2) to take on the Quakers on Friday night at 5:30pm.
