Section VI Football Week 3: Class A Preview

There are several intriguing games this weekend within Class A, perhaps no more so than Thursday night’s match –up between the Niagara Wheatfield Falcons and the Hamburg Bulldogs out in the southtowns.

Niagara Wheatfield Falcons (2-0) at Hamburg Bulldogs (1-1)

Thursday Night 7pm

The Falcons roll into town with a lot more confidence than we’ve seen from them in quite some time. It’s not just because they’ve opened up the season with two straight wins but because collectively, they have not given up a scoring play. Niagara Wheatfield’s strength was thought to be that of dual-threat quarterback Jordan Sparks but after posting back-to-back shutouts the defense is at least a great compliment.

Hamburg dropped their first divisional game last week down in Jamestown 28-14. The Bulldogs will need a huge effort out of their defense tonight to avoid a second straight loss within the division.

Williamsville South Billies (0-2) at South Park Sparks (2-0)

Friday Night – 7:30pm – All-High Stadium

This is a big game for the Billies. Already 0-2, they face a South Park team coming off of a win but not one of their better performances in doing so. The Sparks were pushed around a bit last week against WNY Maritime Charter/Health Sciences, something you don’t see often. South Park is also a little banged up so if there was ever a time to beat them, head coach Kraig Kurzanski and his Will South Billies have as good an opportunity as any this Friday.

Williamsville East Flames (1-1) at McKinley Macks (0-2)

Friday Night – 7:30pm – Riverside Field

If McKinley wants to make a run to the playoff’s they’ll need to buckle down and start putting a few wins together. Easier said than done. Last week the Macks dropped a close road game to Grand Island but are back home Friday with Williamsville East in town.

The Flames won a close game last week over Kenmore East and hope that victory is a sign of things to come.

For the Macks, Taivon Martin and Kaiyer Fields are two of the best in the area, this could be a high scoring game.

Amherst Tigers (1-1) at West Seneca East (2-0)

Friday Night – 7pm

Don’t look now but the Trojans are 2-0. Shaun Dolac has led the way thus far. Amherst might not excite WSE that much given the recent history but the Tigers aren’t a team they will want to look past.

WSE is in for a tough one.

Best of the Rest

  • Kenmore East visits North Tonawanda for head coach Eric Jantzi’s homecoming of sorts. The Lumberjacks are 1-1 while the Bulldogs are still seeking their first win.
  • Sweet Home is at Grand Island. The Panthers are looking for their first win.
  • West Seneca West takes the show on the road and will play Frontier Friday night.
  • Jamestown makes the trip up to Kenmore Saturday to take on the winless Blue Devils at Crosby Field.
