St. Francis’s Dominik Thomas Sets Personal, Program Milestone

On Saturday, January 12th at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Williamsville North, St. Francis senior wrestler Dominik Thomas won the 182-pound bracket and recorded his 200th career victory becoming the first Red Raider to achieve the bicentennial mark. Only two weeks ago Thomas became the programs’ all-time wins leader after breaking Brian Rogers’ 129 wins mark as a Raider.

Dominik began his wrestling career at Lake Shore H.S. and was on the wrestling team coached by Bill Sills before enrolling at St. Francis. He recorded 58 wins as a 7th and 8th grader on the Eagles varsity squad and has 144 victories as a Raider. With about a month and a half left in his senior season, Dominik has a chance to add nearly two dozen more wins to his record. His current season record is 22-2.

Dominik is a two-time defending Catholic High School Athletic Association champion and a recent commit to play FCS Division I football at Holy Cross University in Worcester, Massachusetts.

“Since he’s been a freshman he’s been one of the hardest workers. He’s one of those guys that when you’re doing any kind of conditioning he pushes harder than anybody” stated St. Francis head coach Mike Messore after Thomas’s milestone win. “He demands a lot of himself when he’s working hard. He’s goal oriented and he thrives on those goals. He’s tough and stays in the lineup even when he’s a little banged up…he just sucks it up and wrestles.”
