The Lady Spartans did what they always do last night: finish.

The Section 6 Class A Championship Game pitted the two early season favorites, Will North and Clarence, against each other in a matchup to see who was the clear #1 team in WNY.

Will North had retained a #1 ranking in coaches polls throughout the season, and beaten Clarence 2-1 back in September, but Clarence had been within a single game the entire time.

All bets were off, however, as this was the finals match.

It’s different – the atmosphere, the pressure, last night.. the weather.

Jordan Cooper scored early in the game to put her Lady Spartans up 1-0 going into halftime.

What had been a contested first half, turned into a runaway win for Will North as they tacked on two quick goals coming out of the break. They would add two more to four-peat as Section VI Champions with a 5-0 win and punch their ticket to Regionals, where they’ll play Section V’s Fairport @ 3pm on November 3rd.

Cooper added a second goal; Bre Shannon, Molly Martin and Emma Roland each added a goal of their own.

“Overall, it was a great team effort, ” said Will North coach Jessica Rys. “Every player from the sideline to the field played their role.  Forwards Emma Roland, Jordan Cooper, Molly Martin, Gabby Manzella and Jenna Piotrowski attacked relentlessly. Erin Roland, Sydney Moyer and Lauren Rabinowitz held the midfield and controlled the tempo of the game.  Defensive backs Bre Shannon, Paige Timby and Ryleigh Bies were brick walls on defense.”

Senior Goalie Sam Mallare turned away six shots for the shutout.

“Sam came in the clutch when we needed her making beautiful saves, including several split saves, when necessary.”

Will North has been on a string of dominance the last two years with a 35-1 record and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down, especially considering the State Tournament will be hosted on their home turf the next three years.

A win against Fairport tomorrow would send them back home for semis and finals.

“I am very proud of our performance and efforts. We look forward to playing Fairport Saturday at Penfield.”
