Amherst senior Hasan Dobbins has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week for the eighth week of the 2019-2020 season (Tuesday, 1/14 – Saturday, 1/18).
Hasan captured the 138-pound ECIC Wrestling Championships title on Saturday with a 4-0 tournament record capped by an impressive finals technical fall. So far this season, Hasan holds a 24-7 record, is 11-1 in dual meets, and is a team co-captain. Dobbins placed 5th in Class A in the 2018-2019 season as well.
Perhaps more impressive than Hasan’s efforts in-season are his efforts in the offseason. Dobbins can be found at wrestling and lifting sessions year round; he has had to earn his wrestling success through hard work, dedication, and good character discipline. Dobbins is a three sport athlete who also plays football and tennis. Hasan’s football coach pointed out that he takes the initiative to carry equipment on and off the field every day for practice. Amherst head wrestling coach Dennis Bauer stated “Hasan works nearly as hard in the classroom as he does in wrestling. His teachers always comment on his dedication and how his habits determine his success.” The staff at Eden High School were impressed with Hasan as well, as Bauer was made aware of how polite and pleasant Hasan was during the day.
