Starpoint sophomore Jaron Barrientos has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week for the week of Tuesday, January 3rd to Saturday, January 7th 2023.
Barrientos went a perfect 3-0 with two pins and a major decision on Saturday to help lead the Spartans to the program’s first Section VI Dual Meet title. Jaron earned a first period pin against Clarence in the first round, then bumped up in the lineup from 110 to 118-pounds and major decisioned a returning a fellow returning sectional place winner. In the final, Barrientos earned another crucial pin to help Starpoint secure the sectional dual meet title over a strong Niagara Wheatfield squad.
So far this season, Jaron is 22-3 covering all three of the lowest weights 102, 110, and 118-pounds. Jaron is a retuning Section VI place winner and a big part of the Spartans’ success this season. According to his coaches, Jaron is very hard working in the wrestling room.
