Lancaster freshman Trista Blasz has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week for the week of Monday, January 3rd – Saturday, January 8th, 2022.
Blasz went 2-0 on Saturday at the 5th Section VI Dual Meet Wrestling Championships to help the Legends claim first place while becoming the first female in the history of the event to win a match in the tournament.
Blasz gutted out a 5-0 decision victory at 110-pounds in the Legends’ semifinal win over top seeded Niagara Falls. Then, with the Legends hanging on to a 32-26 lead going into the last bout of the dual, it was up to Blasz to complete the victory for Lancaster as a pin would have tied the match and resulted in a Starpoint victory on criteria. Trista not only won but earned a second period pin to seal the win for Lancaster and the program’s second Section VI Division I Dual Meet title.
Trista’s coaches note that she maintains good grades and that she is a polite, respectful young adult who is especially helpful in teaching younger wrestlers.
