WNY Boys Lacrosse Roundup: Mon 3/25 – Weds 3/27

Section VI boys lacrosse results and highlights from Week Two games played Monday, March 25th – Wednesday, March 27th.

Monday, March 25th

Depew 11 – North Tonawanda 4

Henry Pieszala scored 4 goals and Carl Dotterweich netted 3 to lead the Wildcats to their first ever boys varsity lacrosse win in Section VI play. Justin Losel, Zach Tominich, Chris Peters, and Dawson Kazmierczak each scored for Depew. Losel and Tominich recorded 3 assists apiece and Ben Yelich stopped 10 of 14 shots in net for the Wildcats.

West Seneca West 12 – Amherst 3

Kyle Haettich and Steve Lucas each netted 3 goal hat tricks in the season debut for the Indians. Tyler Smart added 2 goals and an assist, Dan Cantafio made 11 saves in net, and Mike Flury won 13 out of 16 faceoffs for West.

Kenmore 8 – Lockport 6

Oliver Hammond had 16 saves in the Lions’ first action of the spring but Kenmore scored just enough to get by for the team’s second varsity win.

Iroquois 11 – Medina 3

Tuesday, March 26th

Hamburg 18 – Williamsville North 7

Hamburg’s Spencer Nyhart led all scorers with 6 goals in the defending Class B champions’ season opener. Matt Walsh and Brock Schneider scored 3 each, and Brett Chiodo added 2. Four other Bulldogs had one score each. Jared Evenden was solid in net for Hamburg. Six different scorers found the net for North, led by Conor Murphy’s 2 goals.

Williamsville East 15 – Niagara Wheatfield 13

East improved to 3-0 after edging out Class B rival Niagara Wheatfield. Clayton Osborne continued his impressive start to 2019 with 5 goals and an assist for the Flames. Dom Picillo added 4 goals and 3 assists. Joe Amici had 15 saves in net. Devin Napolean had 3 goals and scooped 11 groundballs for the Falcons. Chase Chapman added 2 goals and an assist, and Jaren Dixon had a goal and an assist. Noah Bennett made 15 stops in net for Wheatfield.

Orchard Park 19 – City Honors 0

The Quakers continued to roll and have now scored 36 goals in the team’s first two games.

Sweet Home 12 – Lockport 6

Mike Petrina led the Panthers to victory a night after falling to rival Williamsville South with 4 goals against the Lions. Lucas Marshall added 3 scores for the Panthers and Rob Giancarlo took 18 of 21 faceoffs and added a score for Sweet Home.

North Tonawanda 12 – Wilson 4

The ‘Jacks under new head coach Matt Sledziewski won their first game of the year behind 5 goals from Jacob Stine. Matt Lamm added 2 goals and an assist while five more players found the net for NT.

Penfield (V) 14 – West Seneca East 4

Garret Walker had 3 scores for the defending Class C champs in their first action of the year.

Williamsville South 12 – Lewiston-Porter 2

Wednesday, March 27th

Salamanca 16 – Medina 8

A long ride to Class D rival Medina ended in favor of the Warriors in the teams’ first action of the year. Results not submitted.

Amherst 17 – Wilson 4

The Tigers got into the win column with a road victory on Wednesday. Results not submitted.

Akron 27 – Gowanda 4

The defending Class D champs wasted no time in making a statement in the Tigers first game of the season. Talented 7th grader Braley Abrams made his varsity debut scoring 3 goals on 6 six shots and recording an assist for Akron. Results not submitted.

East Aurora 14 – Grand Island 2

The Blue Devils moved to 2-0 with a statement win over a Class C rival. Results not submitted.

Lake Shore/Silver Creek 21 – Depew 2
